The Baths of Caracalla is simply breathtaking. Approaching this extremely imposing Ancient Roman thermal complex, one can’t help but be impressed by the sheer size and scale of this facility, and wonder how it was built 1800 years ago without modern machinery and technology.
A reflection of how Romans lived their life
Because of its enormous space and the lack of boards of explanation, the Baths of Caracalla will enable you to gain an insight into how Romans lived their life. Romans came here not only to clean their bodies because houses weren’t equipped with running water but also to socialize.
Now, take a moment to picture yourself in this 214-meter long building--a complete sports center, with a 53-meter long swimming pool, dry and steam saunas, gymnastics and sports facilities, social rooms, gardens, libraries, hairdressers, and shops--where at its highest capacity it could accommodate 1,600 people shuttling around caldarium, tepidarium, and frigidarium.
Even just using your imagination it feels great, doesn’t it? Wait till you are physically there!
