Overview

A 90km drive south of Hanoi will lead you to Ninh Binh, the site of the capital city of ancient Vietnam before Hanoi took its leading role in the 11th century.

The area is featured by lots of well-known sceneries, which include Tam Coc caves and Hao Lu ancient capital with the old temples dedicated to King Dinh & King Le reigned in the 10th century.

The visit in Ninh Binh starts by a boat trip in Tam Coc where spectacular limestones karsts jut out from the green paddy fields reminding us about Guilin (China) and Halong Bay of Vietnam, which gives us the scenery name "Halong-bay-on-land".

Further discovery in Ninh Binh will be continued in the site that used to be the king's palace in the 10th century and now famous for the wooden relieves of the shady Dinh and Le temples.

Late afternoon back to Hanoi.

The Boat trip in the Tam Coc was so lovely. Wonderful place. We had a pleasant ride through the caves that was the highlight for me. Water droplets were falling from the rocks! Although we encountered a few ladies, who were trying to sell soft drinks, flowers etc. We discovered that this is entirely normal, as they try to scam money from tourist.

A really wonderful, authentic time. The scenery was absolutely stunning. Our guide was so friendly and helpful. I learned so much from our tour guide about the history and culture of this region. I would really recommend this tour - it was one of the highlights of our China trip!

Went for this trip to the ancient capital private tour - The tour was just okay, we would have liked if the boat was bigger. With that being said the tour guide was so helpful, he made sure it was a great day.

The boat cruise was pleasant, and the scenery is impressive. However, I'm not giving it more than three stars!! The price for the journey as written on the board next to the booking as 120 pp and 150/boat. We thought that we should pay one or the other. Instead, we were charged 3 x 120 and 2 x 150 as we were 3 and also told that we had to take two boats. There were Vietnamese people buying tickets next to us, and they only paid per person, so we felt cheated. In the middle of the cruise when the boats turn around, there are several boats selling food and beverages. We were asked to buy refreshments for our rowers! They stopped there and didn't want to go back until we bought something! It was a horrible experience. It all feels like a scam as the rowers didn't even open the beverages and they probably resell them.

I booked this private tour while in Vietnam, for myself and my partner. We wanted to go on private tours, from previous experiences it is best to go that way on trips. The drive to Ninh Binh is a long journey. But the scenery is fantastic on the road. You see the Tam Coc caves, old temples. The tour guide was very informative and answered all of our questions. We had a great day ttrip, and we would recommend this tour.

A delightful day visit to one of the ancient royal capitals of Vietnam. Thank you very much to our charming and very professional guide Elly who made our day so pleasant with fascinating explanations and exchanges about the culture of her country. The visit to the site and the sampan river tour was worth the journey. My friends and I were so happy we went with this tour.
