My friend recommended this tour as she had booked it the previous year. I agree totally with her as you get to see a lot with a private guide. Definitely worth booking.

<p>I'll never forget this tour. The Auschwitz-Birkenau tour was first, and we first visited Auschwitz I. Unfortunately, I forgot the tour guide's name, but she was great. Her knowledge was exhaustive, and for such an atrociously heartbreaking tour, her professionalism was exemplary. She is a great speaker who knows how to convey or modulate emotion, and her communication skills were very impressive. It was extremely interesting yet sobering to get to walk the very roads as some of history's most vile and heartless mass murderers. The pictures were priceless. The ability to see the faces of Auschwitz's victims, of all ages and conditions, was a huge contributor to the poignancy of the tour. The hair display was the closest we physically were to the victims. This was my most emotional moment, although I and other museum visitors were much better able to contain our emotions than I imagined. Auschwitz II- Birkenau was even sadder. Although with much fewer pictures, its function as a death camp where most people were transported straight to their deaths, left an indelible mark on one's conscience. We then took a lunch break and ended the tour with the Wieliczka Salt mine visit. Our guide was funny, witty, and also incredibly knowledgeable. My personal favorite part was the chandelier-donned room with the statues and a sculpture of the Last Supper. I marveled at the fact that we were scores of floors below ground level, and this depth was achieved without our modern drilling technology. I was delighted at the opportunity to taste some of the salt from some running brine. It was saltier than seawater as our guide warned. This combined tour was incredible, and I'm sure I'll visit again. Highly recommended!<br /><br /></p>

<p>Until you don't visit the Auschwitz-Birkenau museum it will be hard to understand what really happened. The Wieliczka salt mine is something beautiful, a must-see. If you have enough time you can split this tour into two days.</p>

<p>Have just returned from a 3 day trip to Krakow where we took the combined Auschwitz/Salt Mine one-day tour. The whole day was amazing from the moment we were picked up by our driver until we were dropped off. The day was explained clearly en route - plan, times, breaks, length of stay, etc. We were handed headsets on arrival at Auschwitz I &amp; our guide Joanna explained everything with precision &amp; compassion as we moved through the camp. We then headed to Auschwitz II, where again her knowledge &amp; compassion shone through. A good 4hrs was spent in these two camps. We then headed to the Salt Mine with a 45-minute break for lunch beforehand just across from the Mine. On arrival, we were again handed headsets &amp; met by another guide Isabella, again very clear &amp; knowledgeable. The Mine is stunning and it is hard to believe all the work was carried out underground. If in Krakow you have to do this tour, although a long day, yes you may well be emotionally drained it's definitely worth it.</p>
