Mount Isabel de Torres
2 Go on a cable car sightseeing tour from Puerto Plata to Mount Isabel de Torres. It takes seven minutes by cable car to ascend the 2,600 foot, Mount Isabel. The views are most impressive and stunning from this height with brilliant photo opportunities. At the top, there is a botanic garden full of flowers to explore, a statue of Christ which similar to that of the one in Rio de Janeiro and a lovely restaurant.
Fort San Felipe
3 The last remaining colonial structure in Puerto Plata is Forte San Felipe. This was among the first European forts to be constructed in the Americas. It has eight foot ‘thick’ walls and wishing these walls, on a guided tour, visit the small museum which has many interesting artifacts relating to wartime history. Around the fort is a moat and at night it is outlined by lights and looks amazing.
