The Malahide castle is definitely worth a visit! Dating back to the 12th century you get a great impression on how life in one of the famous castles had been for the last couple of centuries. The family who owned for most of the time only sold it in the 1970s! Plus there is an enormous variety of plants and trees from all over the world in the surrounding gardens that is really impressive (even for someone who is not usually into it like me). The city of Howth is a beautiful small fisher town. We only had a bit of time to explore it. But you can always come back if you want to or stay and let the afternoon tour pick you up later...

This was a great trip right outside of Dublin. Malahide castle was beautiful and the tour was very engaging. The bus ride to Howth was extremely scenic, and the village itself was cute and great to see. We had a great guide! He was energetic and funny and passionate about Irish history.

Tour guide obviously loves his history and had lot's of interesting tidbits of information during the drive including U2's school. The Castle is amazing and the gardens and butterfly conservatory on the grounds are a real treat. Visiting the fishing visiting for some fresh fish and chips was fun too. The 4 hours flew by.

My main reason for coming to Dublin was to see the castle, unfortunately, my flight was delayed and a lost a whole day getting there which really threw my plans in a loop. Thanks to the manager at privatetour.com office, who was very informative. I was able to take this tour at the last minute and was really amazed by how well the driver informed us and was blown away with the castle tour. I learned so much and left totally satisfied!!! The bay area and the village was wonderful also.

This is an excellent half day trip. We were a family of five with ages ranging from 10 years old to 74 years old. Very organized and efficient. Our tour guide- one of the only females. Was awesome!!!! She was personable, knowledgeable and an excellent driver. The drive there is short and you get to see what suburban Ireland looks like. Great music played in between the information our guide gave us. The castle and its gardens gives you a glimpse back in time. Again- our tour guide assisted us every step of the way. Our ride to Howth was beautiful- along with the coast. Had a quick lunch there and we were back in Dublin at 2:00! Tips: dress in layers as the top of the bus is the best place to sit but it is a bit windy and chilly- if you have a hat and good coat you will be comfortable.

I was only in Dublin for a couple of days so wanted something that would take me outside the city but wouldn't take the whole day and this tour fit the bill. Overall, it was great! The castle was beautiful and the guided tour of it was informative but not overly long as some tours like that can be sometimes. We were then left to explore the beautiful gardens and the butterfly greenhouse. The Howth village was beautiful, with a beautiful walk and AMAZING fish and chips. We even saw some seals. There wasn't a boring moment on this tour.

This is a great tour, starting at Malahide castle the tour guide is very knowledgeable. We didn't have great weather on the day so we skipped the gardens and went in the butterfly conservatory instead, which was really pretty. From there it was over to Howth village which was also lovely, got fish and chips which obviously the best place to get it. Despite the crappy weather, we enjoyed the tour and it was very well organised. Our driver was very knowledgeable and a great driver. Would recommend this tour.

Malahide Castle is rich in history and our tour guide was phenomenal! He was quite the comedian and very knowledgeable. Howth village was rich in history and the ride to and from the village was great. I had very limited time in Ireland as I was there on business. This trip fit in perfectly.

I've done City Sightseeing's Hop On Hop Off bus tour several times in Dublin, but this time I took their half-day coastal trip to Malahide Castle and Howth. We had a gorgeous day for it, and it was so much fun! Our guide was extremely personable, knowledgeable, and really funny! Along with the driver, his "sidekick" he kept us entertained and feeling well cared for. He truly seems to enjoy his job and the people he meets. I've been to both towns before but hadn't had the tour inside Malahide Castle. We had a great guide there, too. The gardens are also lovely, and there is an Avoca shop in the visitor's centre! When in beautiful Howth, we had time to walk to the end of the pier and then they told us where to get the best fish & chips, and that we could eat them there or on the bus if we wanted to. It was really delicious.

Easy ride to Malahide Castle - interesting tour and beautiful grounds. I was lucky to be there on a sunny day and enjoyed walking around the gardens after the castle tour. We then went to Howth and were able to walk around - I walked down to the pier and then stopped to get a hot chocolate since it was pretty chilly. Howth is a very cute area and fishing town.

This is a well-done tour. The castle is well preserved and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. Then we had a seaside drive to the town of Howth. We had about 40 minutes to walk around or get something to eat. Really done well.

Amazing tour to get a taste of beautiful countryside very close to Dublin city centre. The tour guide made our morning very lively and animated. Really enjoyed time spent exploring history and nature (castle, castle grounds and scenic views along our bus ride). Plenty of room for everyone on the double-decker bus to stay warm and dry. Started raining on our way back and we are greeted by a lovely rainbow in town.

Top!

The half-day trip to Malahide Castle, Dublin Bay and Howth gives you a nice opportunity to see a little of the closer Dublin area. Malahide Castle is not a palace. It is an old castle that has been occupied for hundreds of years until quite recently by the same family. Accordingly, the rooms were furnished after different time periods. The tour was very informative about the history of this important castle and family. Nice scenery driving along Dublin Bay. Howth is an active fishing port. With some luck, you can see fishing vessels unload. There is also time for a quick lunch if you took the morning tour. I would definitely recommend this tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and had a lot of information mixed with a great sense of humour.

Another beautiful day!!! Met up with our double-decker bus and tour guides. Great ride to the Castle and very informative tour. Loved seeing all the ways of living in this property. We did go to Howth Village for a shortstop, only long enough to take a short stroll and have an ice cream cone. Looking at the scenery during the drive was very nice. Again luckily we had beautiful weather.

We did the half-day tour to Malahide Castle and Howth with our three small children (all under age 10). We had done a very full-day tour with another company earlier in the week, and it was also lovely, but tiring especially with children. This tour was just the right length for both children and adults to enjoy. It provided adequate time to take in the sights but was short enough to allow lots of downtimes afterwards to unwind. The tour guide was delightful, candid and funny. The tour bus was comfortable and offered lots of open-air seating, great for a sunny day like today, but also lots of covered seating which would be very useful during inclement weather. The Malahide Castle Guided Tour was about 45 minutes, with just enough information and just enough time to explore (a few moments to explore the house during the tour, and about 45 minutes to explore the grounds afterwards). The gardens are gorgeous and would themselves be worth a half day to wander around. The children especially enjoyed discovering the Fairy Trail.
