Overview
Prophet Ibraham was In Egypt, prophet Joseph, prophet Moses and Prophet Jesus. Cairo, the capital of Egypt, has many names. One of Cairo's many epitaphs is the "City of 1, 000 Minarets". Actually, there are more than that, and so it should be no surprise that there are many interesting historical mosques to see in Egypt. Many of these mosques are open to visitors, and in fact, Cairo has an ongoing program for the restoration of ancient mosques, a few of which rank as some of the oldest to be found in the world. Certainly they are some of the grandest to be found anywhere. Yet, because Egypt has seen many influences from any number of different ruling empires, including Abbasid, Fatimid, Ayyubid Mamluk and Ottoman and others, and because Cairo specifically is a city of the world. You will be happy to learn the correct information about Islam on this tour.

Itinerary
Hours

I will pick you up (8:30 AM) and begin your guided tour in Islamic Cairo.

We start at the Citadel fortress with a visit to the Mohammed Ali Mosque (the alabaster mosque). We should say Masjid not Mosque, Masjid is the right word here. The Citadel was built by Salah-El-Din in the 12th Century.

Our next stop is The masjid of Sultan Hassan, built between 1356 and 1363, and is believed to be one of the finest examples of Mamluk architecture in Cairo. The masjid is also considered one of the largest, not only in Cairo but in the whole Islamic world.

Then we will visit The Refa'i Masjid, located next to Sultan Hassan Mosque, constructed in two phases over the period between 1869 and 1912, when it was finally completed.

In the afternoon we will have our Lunch.

The day ends with a visit to the masjid of Ahmed ibn tulun. Built on Mount Yashkur, Ibn Tulun's mosque was the focal point of the Tulunid capital that lasted only 26 years, the masjid is among Cairo's most visited Islamic monuments and one of its earliest.

Visiting Islamic Cairo, it’s mosques, museum, neighborhoods, cafes and interacting with the locals is just as important as paying a visit to the Sphinx or Pyramids.Go with a guide. Learn about the rich history of the city, meet the locals, and keep an open mind.

A trip to Cairo will not be complete without a visit to Islamic Cairo. This part of the city is so rich in history with the fantastic mosques, the Islamic center of learning Al Azhar and the wonderful Islamic architecture evident in many of the buildings in the conserved quarter.
