Vist the Church of Agios Haralambos, a prominent landmark in the Cesme town centre restored as an art gallery. Then visit the famous Cesme Castle - the focal point of the town. An impressive site with six towers and moats on three sides, the castle is guarded by a statue of Cezayirli Gazi Hasan Pasha, one of the naval commanders of the Battle of Cesme. Pasha is depicted caressing his famous pet lion and facing the Town Square. You will enjoy a refreshment of traditional Turkish tea or apple tea accompanied by ( Sakızlı cookies famous in this region with the impressive Cesme Castle in the background.
Next, we will drive to the Alacati Bay where we will stop to snap some photos of picturesque Alacati Bay. Then as you arrive, the lovely Alacati is a charming district in the region of Cesme— a favourite holiday resort its prized location for country houses for the well-to-do of Izmir. In the past, this area had significant military and agricultural significance. Stroll with your guide through the cobblestone streets, to admire the beautifully restored old houses enjoying the Bohemian atmosphere.
You’ll hear about the history of the structures what you are seeing, and visiting the Agios Constantinos Church, built in 1874 and later converted to a mosque. Enjoy wine tasting from regional wines before having a traditional Turkish lunch.
Then, You will have free time to stroll around the shops, restaurants and coffee shops. Having the opportunity to mingle with the locals at a tea house enjoying a cup of Turkish Coffee cooked with mastic gum which is made only in this region.
