In the northern country, the effect is known as the Aurora Borealis, named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas.
The Eskimos believe that they are the souls of animals. Some even believe that as the auroras dance closer to the those who are watching them, that they will envelop you, and take you to the heavens.
Many believe that its a sign that the spirits of their loved ones are still close and are watching over them always. Aurora Borealis is around midnight when Iceland’s Aurora Oval is said to pass over the observer.

- Photographers will need a tripod since Northern Lights pictures cannot be done free hand

Great trip! Went hunting for the Aurora Borealis on a coach with about 50-60 people. Great guide, knowledgeable and fun! Comfortable coach. No toilet but one of the other coaches did. Stopped in one spot and saw the aurora. Stayed for an hour or so then tried another spot but the weather had changed so we didn’t get off the coach again. Definitely need lots of layers and shoes appropriate for walking in the snow! (We went mid March) The coach gets nice and warm.

Amazing experience. About an hour trip and it’s freezing when you arrive so wrap up warm! We were stood outside for an hour and a half before we saw the lights and 2 hours in total. It gets cold but it’s so worth it if you see them! Amazing. Make sure you have a good camera too. iPhoneXR couldn’t see the lights but iPhone 11 and later could. Weird but something we didn’t know beforehand.
