Duration: 10 hours

Overview

Our day begins at Porto. We start moving South, towards the Bairrada region, famous for its gastronomy but also increasingly by the fantastic wines it produces with its characteristic variety: Baga. With this are produced sparkling huge fineness and high creaminess, as well as red wines of dark and concentrated aroma color.

With this, the sparkling wines produced here are of huge finesse and high creaminess, as well as red wines of dark color and concentrated aroma.

The first stop will be in Aveiro. Here we will take a walk around the city famous for its canals and typical boats, but also for Art Noveau and local pastries. Now we will taste the most typical sweet from Aveiro, the soft eggs. This is a real gift from the Nuns to the World!

We move on to the heart of the Bairrada region, where we will find the Aliança Underground Museum. We will visit the underground tunnels where all the art is stored and taste three awarded sparkling wines.

It's time to taste the typical Bairrada delicacy - Bairrada Roasted Suckling Pig! For this, we will go to Mealhada, the Mecca of the suckling pig in Portugal. This is a unique opportunity to taste this dish at the most famous spot in the country! (if you don’t like the sound of this, we can provide a different main dish).

To end our day we will visit the cellar owned by the Man that personifies the Bairrada - Luis Pato! Here we will visit his winery and taste the delicious nectars to which he has already accustomed us.

Then you'll return to Porto. Are you ready for the trip? Book now!

Nova Beach was the highlight for me - on one side is a lagoon and the other side beach. The suckling pig was just incredible and Mealhada is actually very famous in the region, so it was busy but really worth it. Good portions and fantastic home-made bread. All round a fantastic day, we fitted so much in!

OUTSTANDING day. My husband and I were in the middle of a trip around Europe, and this was by far our favourite tour. What can make or break a day out is your guide. We usually don't go on tours as I prefer to spend my time without somebody I don't know. But, Beatrice was just amazing. She was so friendly and knowledgeable. She really went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. We saw some amazing sights - the salinas surprised us a lot as we would never have chosen to go there but it is definitely well worth a visit. Brilliant food, brilliant wine and fantastic company - you can't go wrong with this day out.

Great day- the gondolas (moliciero) were the highlight for me. The views from the boat were brilliant. This was a really varied day out - all the best parts of Portugal all in one tour. So much is fitted into the day - hugely enjoyable.

There is a lot of walking on this tour so make sure you wear comfortable shoes! But it is still amazing. I loved the museum - the artefacts were fantastic. Nova Beach was great - some beautiful views.

Brilliant day - suckling pig was excellent! It was melt-in-the-mouth meat and there was fresh, steamy bread that had only just come out their oven. The wines we tasted were fantastic and the views from Nova Beach were beautiful. All - round it was a perfect day - the salinas were brilliant to see in the flesh. Our guide Bea was great too - so friendly and helpful. Brilliant day out for everyone

Great day out. Costa Nova beach is beautiful - all the houses are painted different colours and there is a lagoon on one side. We fitted so much in in a short space of time but I never felt rushed. The Alianca Underground museum was a lot better than I was expecting too - the wine tasted really great

I really enjoyed my tour of the Aveiro area with my guide, Beatriz. A highlight was the Aliance Underground Museum where we saw the Berarado Collection and tasted some fab sparkling wines. Eduardo, our guide, was very generous with the tastes! We had a wonderful lunch and lots more wine at the next stop, and an interesting tour of the salt flats really tested my balance after all that wine. LOL It was great fun and really interesting. I was surprised by this tour and would do it again.

I didn't know what to expect as I booked the trip last minute but by far from all of my tours taken in Portugal they knocked it out of the park by miles. We drove to the museum/winery where I was amazed by how much history is stored and taken care of in the building - the sparkling wine is good but I am a port girl the museum is amazing and the tour so informative.

Then off to lunch another awesome experience the round building an architectural hidden treasure the meal of steak and pineapple along with more wine was refreshing and filling. Back in the car after a winery tour to see the river and the ocean if it is cold in Porto it will be colder here so prepare. Then to the boat ride - take a jacket and blanket and enjoy the view from the water.

The taste of the special sweet after the ride was a nice touch and seeing the actual salt piles was so much fun! I had an amazing day and can't thank Jorge enough!!

A really varied and educational day. Phenomenal food, and Alianca museum was just stunning. The quality of the collections were amazing. All finished off with a nice glass of sparkling wine, and I bought some to take home as well - 6 bottles. Brilliant day, highly recommend.

Visited leading maker of sparkling wine that also features African and Portuguese are museums. Then had an outstanding lunch, visit to town of Aveiro, pastry making experience, boat tour, then visit to a small port house back in Porto. Beatriz was the tour leader.
