"Salkantay Trek and Machu Picchu 5 Days

The Salkantay trek beneath the magnificent Salkantay Mountain one of the highest and most stunning in the Peruvian Andes. The impressive Salkantay and Humantay dominates your first two days, as you pass through the high puna landscape. On the third day, you descend to the warm cloud forest, to reach Aguas Calientes on the fourth day.

The impressive magic Inca city of Machu Picchu visited on the last day of the program. This tour is an interesting alternative for those not having found spaces on the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The Salkantay Trek was recently named among the 25 best Treks in the World, by National Geographic Adventure Travel Magazine.

Soraypampa our first campsite at (4000m)/(12,750 ft). This is the highest and coldest campsite of the whole trip!

We have breakfast at around 5:30am and begin our hike to the highest pass on this trek at (4,650m)/(15,200ft), located halfway between two huge mountains; Salkantay on the right and Tucarhuay on the left. From this pass, the view of the two snow-capped mountains is incredible! There is a possibility of snow here. After a rest, we will continue our walk downhill through a dramatic cloud forest towards Huayracpunco, also known as Huayracmachay, where we will have lunch. We hike again after lunch for about 4 hours towards the jungle until we reach our second campsite Chaullay; at (2,900m)/(9,500ft).

The climate is warm in La Playa which is at(2,500m)/(8,202ft). After a rest, we will go to the hot springs (optional) and enjoy a well-deserved soak in the soothing waters. A real treat after finishing the trek!

I've been on many tours and I can honestly recommend this one to anyone. There were stages that was a bit tough as I'm not as young as I was but it was an experience I am happy I did not miss. The guides were brilliant from start to finish. Without their help, encouragement and general good nature I'm not sure the tour would have been as good. I will never forget this tour and have the amazing pictures to help remind me.

The trek to Machu picchu was such an extraordinary experience which I definitely recommended! We are a family of four, my husband, my two teenager girls and I. For us , the trek was exactly the special adventure which we were looking for. It was a great chance for me and my husband to experience such a romantic days after so many years of marriage, and also a life training lesson for my girls. The first day, we couldn't get too far because of the altitude sickness. We camped there and had rest for most of the day. The night was so beautiful. The second day, we all got better, and we made it to the mountain peak. This was honestly the highlight of the trip for me. I felt on top of the world. On the third day, we camped at a farm with interesting bathrooms and other hikers. On the forth day, we hiked through a coffee farm. During the whole trekking, our tour guide was being so considerate and took care of us very well. I would like to thank you. We are lucky to have you as our tour guide during the meaning trip.
