A Private Tour to Yangon to Get Your Tan on, the Ever Growing City

A private tour to Yangon to get your tan on, the ever growing city is an exciting, up and coming city, definitely it is the place to be. It is growing every day and not just buildings; foreigners are visiting here to holiday, to live and to invest. All of this is happening because, in 2015, the people of Myanmar voted in a democratic government of the first time in over 500 years.

The restrictions on who can enter the country, where they can go and who can invest have all gone. The national and international media can now talk and report about this wonderful city which in turn makes people curious and want to visit.

Yangon has so much to offer a traveller. Previously known as Rangoon, Yangon is the largest city in Myanmar both in size and commercially. Thanks to Myanmar's recent liberation, the city is being rejuvenated, the buildings and monuments are getting makeovers, new shops, bars and restaurants are constantly opening. There is an air of excitement and hope everywhere you go in Yangon

Ngahtatgyi Paya
1 An extremely popular Buddhist Temples to visit, by private tour, in Yangon, is Ngahtatgyi Paya. It has possibly the most fabulous 46 foot tall Buddha image in Myanmar. This Buddha poses in the splendour of white and gold with lots of fabulous precious jewels embedded everywhere on it. The beautiful backdrop to this Buddha is also impressive with its wooden carvings.
National Museum of Yangon
2 The treasures found in this museum are well worth the guided tour. The museum is working hard to improve on the information offered for tourists but even without it; you can see the wonderful relics from Yangon of old. There is one thing that stands out, the old Kings of Myanmar loved everything flamboyant and flashy. There are jewel encrusted, huge thrones, ornate beds, ivory kitchen chairs and gold threaded rugs to na
Kandawgyi Lake
3 For a break from just seeing Temples take a tour to the Kandawgyi Lake also known as Royal Lake. This is a man-made lake built by the British originally as a reservoir. Take a boat trip at sunset and see the Shwedagon Paya reflected beautifully on the lake. There is a floating shrine for a Buddhist saint who is said to be the protector of people in moments of danger. There are plenty of cafes along the lakeside to relax.
Htwe Oo Myanmar Traditional Puppet Theatre
4 This is so completely different that you have to do it, a traditional puppet show staged in Htwe and his family's living room. Htwe and his family have travelled the world and won awards for their puppeteering, and the show includes explanations in English. After the show, you can talk to the family and look/play with the puppets. It is advisable that you go here with a private tour as it has to be booked in advance
People's Park
5 This Park is ideally situated with fantastic views of the Shwedagon Paya. It is a very pleasant place to go on a private tour so that you do not miss out on anything there. It would be easy just to look at the beautiful flower gardens and ponds with spectacular fountains, but you would miss out on the quirky bits. There are; a fighter jet, an old steam train and even a decommissioned Myanmar Airways Fokker !
Shwedagon Paya
6 One of the most holiest places for Buddhism, in Yangon, is Shwedagon Paya. It feels like everything is built around this impressive temple as it can be seen from every aspect in Yangon. The best time to go on a private tour to this temple is at dawn when it is peaceful, calming and less crowded. As it is a most holy place, it is full in the daytime with lots of worshippers and tourists. The history there is fascinating
Chaukhtatgyi Paya
7 This temple is a large metal-roofed shed but home to a beautiful Buddha that is 65 meters long and lying on her side with her head on her hand. This statue has glass eyes and a placid face. Her crown is encrusted with precious stones and diamonds. Near the foot of the Buddha is a small shrine to Ma Thay who was a holy man with the power to stop rain and grant safe journey to sailors. It is not unusual to see people meditate here.
Botataung Paya
8 This beautiful Buddhist Temple is found on the riverfront. Leading up to the spectacular Golden Zedi stupa there is the most amazing zig-zag corridor. While all other Zedi stupas are completely solid, this Golden Zedi is hollow. Looking in the glass displays, you can see artefacts and relics from ancient times that were uncovered when the temple was reconstructed. See the hundreds of Terrapin Turtles found in the pond there too.
Meilamu Paya
9 For some light hearted entertainment, you have to take a private tour of Meilamu Paya. It is described as a Disneyland-ish pagoda! Located beside the Nga Moe Yeik Creek, it has 3D stucco depictions of the Buddha’s life that are larger than life. Housing a gallery telling us about the legend of the girl born from a mangrove fruit, Mei La Mu, is a giant crocodile. There are quaint teahouses and boats to reach temples across the creek.
Sule Paya
10 For an example of modern Asian life melding with ancient Myanmar tradition, take a private tour to Sule Paya. It is not every day you visit a city that has a Golden Temple 2000 years old as its traffic island, but here you see it. It is believed that this temple is even older than Shwedagon Paya. The best time to appreciate this Paya is at night when all the traffic has died down and an air of calm has come.
