Venice Tour for Families with St. Mark’s Basilica

4.6 / 5 total 21 reviews
Duration: 2 hours
Tour ID: 2220
Overview

During the Venice Tour for Families, kids and parents will learn about Venetian traditions and the history of the aristocratic families who ruled Venice when the city was known as the: “Queen of the Adriatic Sea”.

Your children will be the stars of the tour and your expert will keep them engaged, asking them questions and involving them throughout the tour. Located on more than 100 small islands separated by canals and linked by world famous bridges, such as Rialto, the city and its lagoon are listed among the World Heritage Sites.

Once a Republic, Venice was one of the most influential maritime powers during the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods. It was also an important centre of commerce (such as grain, silks, spices and other products) and home to many artists from the 13th up to the 17th century.

You will visit the amazing Doge’s Palace, once the main ruler of the Venetian Republic. Once the residence of the powerful Doge’s who ruled Republican Venice, you will again have priority entrance to avoid lines. Here you will learn all about this crucial period in Venetian history as you visit the Doge’s apartments and enjoy the marvellous works of art housed inside.

The next stop of the tour will be the romantic Bridge of Sighs (you will discover the origins of its unusual name!) and then you will proceed to St. Mark’s Square and Basilica; inside the church you will have the opportunity to admire the famous Golden Pall, the Basilica’s high altar universally recognized as one of the most refined and accomplished works of Byzantine craftsmanship, as it is adorned with over 2000 gems.

My ten year old still remembers how many islands there are in Venice and he still talks about the sad bridge. This was an excellent tour with a very child friendly guide.

There is not a lot of walking involved so you can even take your toddler on this tour. I will be looking for similar tours when we plan our next holiday and I highly recommend this one when you are in Venice.

I highly recommend this tour for anyone who want their children to benefit from the experience of visiting a foreign country. It was worth paying for a private guide and the whole 2 hours were spent enjoying the sights in a relaxing way. Learning about the palace and the Bridge of Sighs was amazing. Our guide did a great job with my 5 year old son and I could not believe how he really enjoyed listening to her.

We were a group of four adults and four kids who decided to book this tour before we came to Italy. Having a private guide meant that we would all get a better understanding of Venice and this was most certainly the case. We wanted to get our bearings so we booked the tour for our first day and this was a great way to make us more confident to explore on our own during the rest of our visit.

Although it was more expensive than a group tour; it was worth it. This was a great way to start our holiday in Venice. It gave us a feel of the area we were staying in and the tour guide kept our children engaged the entire time.

Not only did our guide have our kids hanging on her every word; my husband and I were captivated as well. This tour is great if you have children with you as it is not always easy keeping them interested when visiting a city. We did the tour on our second day in Venice and everything about it was just right. Two hours is enough for them and we were so impressed that we booked another tour with the company.
