Overview

Full-Day Tour of Pompeii and It's Ruins from Rome

We will begin our journey along the Highway of the Sun, driving past the famous Roman countryside, the Castelli Romani. Admire incredible views of the Mediterranean and Mount Vesuvius, as well as to countless historic sites. You will enjoy a short sight of the City, the seashore and the Gulf of Naples.

After stopping for a traditional Italian lunch, we will make our way to the UNESCO Archaeological Site of Pompeii with skip-the-line tickets. We will spend the afternoon exploring this once thriving city that was frozen in time by layers of volcanic ash. Pompeii remained buried under a layer of pumice stones and ash 19 to 23 feet (6 to 7 meters) deep. The city’s sudden burial served to protect it for the next 17 centuries from vandalism, looting and the destructive effects of climate and heavy weather.

After the tour of Pompeii, we will resume our trip through the Roman countryside, enjoying the scenery as we leisurely make our way back to Rome. Return in time to enjoy the rest of the night in Rome at your leisure.

The tour guide was very informative and showed us the most critical places on site, otherwise, we would have spent hours endlessly wandering around with no clue! We had an excellent lunch before we got to Pompeii and often stop for refreshments and toilet breaks which was brilliant, very considerate! I would take this tour again and use this company again, a lot of places online that I would love to visit and such great prices!

A new Mercedes Benz van picked me up at my hotel and took me to the Bus Office where I boarded the bus to Pompeii. The van driver was accommodating and he refused a tip. The tour guide was extremely professional and very friendly. The bus was comfortable and clean. On the way to Pompeii, the guide pointed out the famous Monte Cassino Abbey where the WW2 battles took place. You could see it in the distance. She also told us where Tivoli was. Before we arrived at the Pompeii Ruins, we took a brief tour of Naples and the Naples waterfront and had a delightful lunch at a restaurant just outside. The tour of the ruins was first class with an archaeologist as a guide. This archaeologist was an expert on all topics including the ruins and the anthropology. There was even time for refreshments at the end of the tour before we boarded the bus for the trip to Rome. The time on the bus went by quickly because the bus stopped at rest stops at just the right time. When the bus arrived at the Termini Train Station in Rome, I was told to board a small van that took me back to the hotel. I was surprised that the bus ride was so refreshing. The countryside was beautiful, and the tour guide offered such delightful commentary. A win-win tour all the way around. Even if you have a short time in Rome, you would be wise to take this tour! Thank you.

Took the day trip to Pompeii, was picked up on time at my hotel and taken to the departure point. Francesca was our tour guide, and she was terrific! Always smiling, friendly and approachable. We stopped halfway for a break and chance to buy food and use the facilities. Then on to Naples where we picked up another guide, Wilma, who pointed out the sites in Naples. A shortstop for photos over Naples Bay and a view of Mt. Vesuvius before heading to Herculaneum for a beautiful lunch. On to Pompeii, which I have wanted to see since I was a child. It is a lot of walking on very uneven stones and roadways. But, you are walking the actual streets of the city of Pompeii. We were shown the graffiti, private homes with the frescos still beautifully preserved, of course, the famous brothel, bathhouse, a plaster cast of a victim, etc. My only issue was the uneven walkways, I spent more time looking down so I wouldn't trip then looking up at the ruins, so if you are unsteady or have difficulty walking, bear this in mind, but do not let it deter you from seeing Pompeii or taking this tour, it is so worth it. I would certainly recommend this tour and would retake it!
