Morning stat your drive along the east coastal road to reach Pondicherry, a French colonial city, where we still can witness the dominance of French culture and domain. Later visit the Church of Sacred heart of Jesus and the most interesting factor is the large stained-glass panels that describe the incidents of the life of Jesus Christ. Today you can visit Pondicherry museum which has an outstanding collection of artifacts from the French colonial period and the rooms are arranged in French style decorated with marble, paintings, clocks and mirrors. Has a unique collection of Brass, bronze and stone arts of the Pallava and Chola period. Visit Auroville, a universal town often considered as” City of Dawn” started by The Mother Mirra. Depart Chidambaram after breakfast which is believed to be the town where Shiva performed his cosmic dance called “Tandava Nritya”. Visit the Natrajar temple built by the Cholas in the 9th century. Next destination you would be visiting is Gangaikondacholapuram and Darasuram, which is actually a temple undertaken and maintained by the UNESCO world heritage team. “The city of Chola who took the Ganges” is the meaning of the name of this place. Brihadeeshvara temple in Gangaikondacholapuram, a replica of Tanjore’s Brihadishvara temple, the towered sanctum of this granite Shiva temple is shorter than the one at Tanjore. Airavateshwara temple at Darasuram is an excellent example for architectural marvel and one of the oldest temples. The sculpture of the temple depicts the incidents of Chola period. Post breakfast drive to Tanjore town often referred as “The rice bowl of Tamil Nadu” and the place which was ruled by the Cholas initially and later by Nayakas and the Marathas. A visit to the thousand pillared hall beautifully decorated columns built in the 16th century is now a museum called Thirumalai Nayak palace, displaying the bronze and stone images. Today morning after breakfast proceed to the backwaters region of Alleppey also known as "Venice of east", around midday you’ll embark the traditional Houseboat, where you will be floating rhythmically to the waves and enjoy watching Kuttanadu farming, coir making, fishing, dish washing and day to day activities of the local village people. There is a Kerala that lives along these backwaters busy with its own unique culture, it will be an incredibly different experience just floating in this backwater and absorbing unusual representation.
