ROYAL BHUTAN TOURS
Day 01: Arrive Paro-Thimphu
The flight to Paro is one of the most spectacular mountain flights in the world, with a constantly changing panorama of some of the highest mountains on earth. Our representatives will meet you at the Paro international airport after customs formalities. You will be received with a white scarf which indicates showering of blessings and cleansing.
The altitude is 2,320 meters above sea level hence to acclimatize we will not take any hikes but after a well rest, visit the Kyichu Temple, one of the oldest temples in the kingdom built in the 7th century. A special ceremony will be performed to purify and to bring good omen to you for your travel in the kingdom.
Drive to the capital, Thimphu (1 hr drive) following the Paro river. Before dinner there will be an orientation on Bhutanese etiquette by your guide.

Day 02: Thimphu (Full day sightseeing)
Begin your day with a visit to the Bhutan National Bank or at a local Authorized money exchanger. If you would like to exchange your money then this is the perfect time to do so. Your tour begins with a visit to the handmade paper factory. Paper has been made in the Himalayas from a long time, traditionally to supply to the Buddhist monasteries with paper for woodblock. The most common and popular papers of Bhutan are made from the bark of the Daphne and Edgeworthia plant.
You will also visit the Traditional Painting Gallery. You will be introduced to the first hand skills of traditional painting. You may also purchase souvenirs to take back home.
Later visit to the Folk Heritage Museum featuring an exhibition of items and artifacts of Bhutanese villages and rural households. The museum also organizes demonstrations of rural traditions, skills, habits and customs, educational programs for children and documentation on rural life of Bhutan. In the evening, your guide will drive you to Kuenselphodrang (Buddha point) where lies the tallest statue of a seating Buddha in the world. From there you can also get a birds eye view of the small bustling Thimphu city.

Day 03: Thimphu-Punakha-Wangduephodrang
- Altitude: 1300 mtrs
- Distance: 71 kms
- Estimated driving time: 2 ½ hrs
After breakfast, travel to Punakha through Dochula Pass(3,088m/10,130ft). You will have a fifteen minutes break at Dochula Pass to enjoy the breath taking view and take photographs of the famous 108 chortens (stupas). Travel on to Punakha the old capital of Bhutan and presently the winter residence of the central monk body. Visit the Punakha Dzong “Palace of Great Happiness” built in 1637 by Shabdrung the unifier of Bhutan, located on the island of the Pho chu (male river) and the Mo chu (female river). This is also the palace where our present King and Queen got married. Evening, walk through the Metshina to the Devine Madman’s Monastery- Chhimi Lakhang, famously known for its fertility shrine, where one can receive a special fertility blessing.

Day 04: Punakha (Rafting)
Enjoy a little bit of adventure.
After breakfast, hike through pine forest and farm fields along the bank of Pho Chu for about 1 hr until you reach Samdhingkha, where your rafting crew will welcome you. After a debriefing, you will start rafting along the Pho Chu coming across exhilarating stretches of class II and IV rapids. Accompanying this fine stretch of river are beautiful landscapes of farmlands, hills dotted with monasteries and forest areas full of bird life. Enjoy lunch on a sandy embankment, post-lunch the rafting session will continue until you reach the relatively placid section of the river below the imposing Punakha Dzong.

Day 05: Drive to Bumthang valley

After breakfast, drive to Bumthang via Pelela pass at an altitude of 3,150 meters. This drive gives you a wonderful opportunity for photographs. En-route stops at Chummy village to visit the Yathra weaving centre. Yathra are woolen fabrics made into colorful scarves, bags, blankets, sweaters and jackets. Continue drive to Bumthang, mingle with the locals and overnight at a beautiful resort in Bumthang.
Day 06: Bumthang valley sightseeing tour
Today we will visit the 7th century Jampa Lhakhang(Monastery). Jampa Lakhang is one of the oldest temples in the kingdom and it dates back to the origins of Buddhism in Bhutan. You will also visit Guru Rimpoche’s Kurje Lhakhang and offer our prayers (Kurje meaning “Bodily Imprint” on the rock cliff of the temple. One can actually see the bodily imprint of Guru Rimpoche.
After lunch, continue sightseeing at Jakar Dzong (fortress) and Tamshing Lhakhang also known as the temple of Good message, founded in 1501 by Pema Lingpa (Treasure revealer) which contains interesting and ancient Buddhist wall paintings.

Day 07: Bumthang-Phobjikha
- Altitude: 2,900 mtrs
- Distance: 188 kms
- Estimated driving time: 7hrs
After breakfast drive to Trongsa the central part of Bhutan and visit the Trongsa Dzong-seat of the district administration built in 1648. You will also visit the Tower of Trongsa-converted into the museum from a watch tower that once guarded Trongsa Dzong from internal rebellion.
- Then drive to Phobjikha after lunch. Overnight will be at the hotel.
Day: 08 Phobjikha-Thimphu
- Altitude:2900 meters
- Distance: 135 kms
- Estimated driving time: 6 hrs
After breakfast, travel back to Thimphu. You will have lunch at Punakha or at Dochula. Evening will be at leisure. You can take a stroll through the Thimphu city and witness the everyday lives of the bhutanese people in this small bustling city. You may also take your time in shopping for gifts or souvenirs to take back home.

Day 9: Thimphu- Paro
After breakfast, travel back to Paro. You will be taken to the viewpoint from where you will be able to see the entire Paro International Airport (which is also said to be one of the most beautiful airports in the world). You will be taken to your hotel and the remainder day is free to explore the Paro township or enjoy the spa treatments available at your accommodation.

Day 10: Paro (A day hike to Paro Taktsang Monastery)
After breakfast, drive up to the base camp of Taktsang and then hike up to the most famous Monastery in the entire kingdom of Bhutan perched on the edge of a steep cliff about 900 meters above the Paro valley is a spectacular sight. The hike to the viewpoint will take about an hour and it will take 2 hrs to the monastery (for those who cannot hike we will arrange a horse for transfer up to the view point). The monastery is also an important pilgrim site for the Buddhist. The great Guru Rimpoche is said to have flown here on the back of a tigress when he brought the teachings of Buddhist Dharma in the 8th century. Every tourist visiting Bhutan visits Paro Taktshang as this is a very important and holy monastery and it is one of the must visit places in the kingdom.
On the return drive, visit the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang one of the 108 temples constructed by the Tibeten King Songtsen Gampo and offer your prayers for a safe return back home.

Day 11: Departure from Paro
In the morning your tour guide from Bhutan Geo Visits will escort you to the Paro International airport for your departure.
